Drove 740 kms yesterday from Coober Pedy to Yulara. Strange how it does not seem a long way out here. I think it is the lack of traffic and you can drive with no distractions. But anyhooo, for 4.5 hours, we did not see one car that was going in the same direction as us until landing at Pimba for fuel.
Bought a lovely aboriginal painting from an indigenous man at Mt. Ebenezar. Nice guy but his voice box had been affected by petrol sniffing in his youth and he had to wheeze the words out as his voice box was cactus.
Found our campsite at Ayers Rock Campgrounds and booked all our tourist "must do's". So, the agenda is trekking around Uluru, Camel Ride at Sunset, Chopper ride tomorrow over Kata-Tjuta (The Olgas) with dinner in the evening at a secret site called Sails at Sunset. Nigella and I are going to celebrate our collective "something-something O" birthdays by a special dinner and the organisers have managed to squeeze us in. Yay!! We are also doing some trekking around the Olgas.
Today's activity around Uluru was via pushbike. Hilarious! We got halfway round and we thought we did not have time to do the full circle. Vivski determination set in. (Yes, I hear you all!) Nigel elected to return the way we had come and waved me off into oblivion and I rode "hell for leather" to get around The Rock and back to the bike operator in the required 3 hour timeslot. Made it with 10 mins to spare! It was great!! :-) Then we toddled off for our Camels at Sunset tour and that was great fun, albeit sore bum upon return. My camel's name was Meryl the Feral. But truly, she was lovely, just like her rider!!! LOL

Are we there yet?? from him
